This essay continues a disingenuous discussion propagated within liberal circles on pop. growth & immigration. (Conservative views are also disingenuous)

We do face a massive overpopulation problem. Earth can only sustain 8B pop. via fossil fuels, & our growth is leading to biodiversity loss, deforestation etc. Our deadly climate crisis must be addressed asap, which means changes to our high emission lifestyles & simultaneously stopping pop. growth. That means halting immigration as immigration is our only source of pop. growth.

Economic arguments that immigration/pop. growth must continue are a ponzi: can’t continue forever & benefits large land owners/the wealthy the most. Also Low wages have stagnated due to immigration & businesses exploit immigrants as there are always more immigrants to take their place.

Arguments that concerns of changing demographics are racist/xenophobic are false. It posits that culture is irrelevant & that ppl themselves cannot democratically decide the make up of their culture & community. Pretending there is 1 true world culture, whose values are dictated by an elite (in this case academic), is a supremacist world view.

We must move to a post-consumer life in the west, where culture/community are increasingly important. & people must decide democratically how they wish their society & culture to look, not an elite. Fear mongering about truthful discussions on immigration & pop. growth will only lead to more division, hatred & our downfall.
