America’s use of population growth to increase the GDP is a ponzi and is killing our environment.

It’s a good thing to let America’s population drop.

When our population grows, the amount of land we have stays the same, increasing the value of land. People with large amounts of land get even wealthy, while any “newcomers” eg those being born or immigrate are put at a significant disadvantage. Any claim of long term increases in GDP are comparable to the benefits of trickle down economics. People face more job competition & accompanied stagnant wages, higher costs for housing/land and inflation. The rich get richer while most Americans, especially our poorest, face both short term & long term disadvantages.

As well, while there may be GDP growth (unequally distributed), it also leads to more resource consumption & emissions. We know that America’s high emissions/consumption lifestyle must change and any population growth prior to reaching net zero is contributing to climate change disaster. It in fact makes it harder for America to reach net zero. If you believe climate change is real, you too should be pushing to limit population growth of any societies that live such high consumption lifestyle.

We need to let America’s numbers drop. Encourage family planning, offer birth control and restrict immigration. Both our environment and the majority of Americans (as well as our poorest) will thank you.
